From the south, LA 524 begins as a state highway at an intersection with US 165 just north of Pollock. It heads north and passes through the small community of Antonia, where the speed limit is 45 MPH instead of 55 MPH.
After passing through Antonia, LA 524 meets US 165 for a second time, pairing with it for under a mile, then leaving US 165 for the northwest. LA 524 meets LA 123, then ends after approximately .75 miles, changing to Old US 165.
LA 524 is an undivided, two-lane highway for most of its length. The route was the prior route of U.S. Highway 165 from LA 123 to Pollock, and joins US 165 on a short, four-laned stretch of highway. Before the 1955 renumbering, LA 524 was State Route 2115.
The entire route is in Grant Parish.
